COST ACCOUNTANT  (Manufacturing)

For over 50 years, our client (with over $700 million in annual sales) has manufactured premium products in its multiple facilities throughout the United States.

Located less than 30 minutes south of Dallas, Texas, this key finance position reporting directly to the Accounting Manager, will provide reliable manufacturing plant operations analysis and counsel to the operational teams through the timely coordination of a variety of analytical projects.  You will be responsible for the coordination and completion of significant accounting projects and activities including but not limited to the period financial close activities, plant and equipment budget, financial forecasts and annual operation budget.  A key accountability is to ensure an effective cost control system is maintained within the plant and that accurate and realistic cost information is supplied to the site leadership and the corporate office.

RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE:

1.  Use PeopleSoft and other local systems that interface with the financial system to monitor information and ensure that credibility of the cost system are maintained.

2.  Provide financial expertise to the site General Manager and Plant Manager, as well as within the Accounting Department on technical questions and projects.  Ensure the achievements of overall plant goals and objectives and that the reporting of plant financial results is in a manner consistent with corporate and internal control policies.

3.  Coordinate the continuous improvement initiatives surrounding the annual operating budget process including electronic spreadsheet development, checks and balances, and communication with plant and corporate teams.

4.  Assist in the development of skill depth within the Accounting Department by coordinating a monthly training session covering MSExcel, MSPowerPoint, MSWord, Microsoft Outlook, and basic financial analysis.

5.  Ensure application of established corporate financial controls within area of responsibility by the effective implementation and maintenance of financial policies and instructions; and by the establishment, maintenance, and audit of effective and reliable control procedures.  Report to the Accounting Manager or in case no action is taken within reasonable time period, to his principal, whenever corporate financial policies or instructions are not being followed, or appear in appropriate, inadequate or out-of-date.

6.  Demonstrate a commitment to quality performance through personal example by adopting a customer-based philosophy in the level of service provided.

7.  Communicate fully both, verbally and written, with superiors, subordinates and others who have a need to know.  Be informative without being obtrusive or vexatious.  Communicate in a way that is timely, yet prompt; complete yet concise, and clear, yet responsive.

8.  Must contribute to an environment in which all team members are respected regardless of their individual differences and are motivated to improve both, their individual and team contributions to achieve desired business results.

9.  Analyze operational results to identify opportunities for improving machine efficiency, quality results, material yield, labor efficiency, and costs.  Coordinate and provide leadership within the operations team to support achieving team and facility objectives.

10.  Participate in development and implementation of cost reduction activities and projects.  Assist in providing timely and accurate operations analysis in the areas of operation results, spending, and overhead costs.

11.  Support the corporation’s on-going PeopleSoft system implementation by providing analysis of current business processes and information requirements, understanding of integrated systems’ best practices, and identifying and implementing improvements using the aforementioned software.

Required for consideration is; at least a bachelors degree in Accounting, at least five (5) years of manufacturing cost accounting experience in a continuous process operation (preferred), a work history showing the proven ability to adjust to a commonly changing manufacturing and accounting environment; the personality to “fit-in” with this laid-back congenial work environment; experience and the ability to work on assignments alone when necessary, and outstanding written and verbal communication skills.
